Six human homologs of the Drosophila Toll receptor were initially identified based on their sequence similarities and designated toll~like receptors (TLR). Participates in the innate immune response to microbial agents. Mediates detection of bacterial flagellins. Acts via MYD88 and TRAF6, leading to NF~kappa~B activation, cytokine secretion and the inflammatory response. |
