NCAM (neural cell adhesion molecule, CD56) is an adhesion glycoprotein with five extracellular immunoglobulin~like domains followed by two fibronectin type III repeats. NCAM mediates neuronal attachment, neurite extension and cell~cell interactions through homo and heterophilic interactions.
